Terms of Service

GridSpy is a free, real-time multiplayer word-grid party game you play in a web browser (including as an optional progressive web app). Hosts create rooms and share a room code or link; players pick seats and play Red vs Blue without creating an account.

We may change, suspend, or discontinue features at any time, including for maintenance, abuse prevention, or product evolution. We do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

You must be old enough to use online services under the laws of your jurisdiction. If you are under the age of majority, you may use GridSpy only with permission of a parent or guardian. The Service is not directed at children under 13.

You are responsible for the display name you choose, the rooms you create or join, and how you share room codes. Anyone with a code or link may join that table while it exists. Do not share codes with people you do not want in your game.

You agree not to impersonate others in a misleading or harmful way, and not to use names or content that are unlawful, hateful, harassing, or sexually exploitative.

You agree not to:

• Disrupt, overload, scrape in an abusive way, or reverse engineer the Service except where mandatory law allows.
• Probe or attack our systems, bypass rate limits or security, or attempt unauthorized access to rooms, data, or infrastructure.
• Use bots, scripts, or automation to create mass rooms, spam joins, cheat in a way that harms others’ play, or degrade the Service.
• Use GridSpy for unlawful activity, or to transmit malware or illegal content.
• Misrepresent an affiliation with GridSpy, Codenames, or any other brand you do not own.

We may remove rooms, block access, or take other action we reasonably consider necessary to protect the Service and players.

Rooms and game state are temporary. We delete inactive or finished rooms on a schedule (for example finished rooms after roughly 12 hours of idle time, and any room after roughly 72 hours of idle time). Do not rely on GridSpy as a permanent archive of games or messages.

The GridSpy name, branding, site design, software, and original content are owned by us or our licensors. You receive a limited, revocable, non-exclusive, non-transferable license to use the Service for personal, non-commercial play as allowed by these Terms.

You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or create derivative works from the Service except as expressly allowed or required by law.

Sound effects bundled with the Service may include third-party assets used under their respective licenses (for example CC0 packs). Word lists and gameplay concepts are inspired by popular party word games; GridSpy is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or sponsored by Czech Games Edition, Codenames, or related trademark owners.

The Service may show optional sponsor placements or link to third- party sites. Those sites have their own terms and privacy practices. We do not control and are not responsible for third- party content, products, or services.

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED “AS IS” AND “AS AVAILABLE,” WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SERVICE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, SECURE, OR FREE OF ERRORS OR HARMFUL COMPONENTS.

Some jurisdictions do not allow certain disclaimers; in those places, disclaimers apply to the fullest extent permitted by law.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, GRIDSPY AND ITS OPERATORS, CONTRIBUTORS, AND PROVIDERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR ANY LOSS OF PROFITS, DATA, GOODWILL, OR OTHER INTANGIBLE LOSSES, ARISING FROM YOUR USE OF (OR INABILITY TO USE) THE SERVICE.

TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ANY CLAIM ARISING OUT OF OR RELATING TO THE SERVICE OR THESE TERMS IS LIMITED TO THE GREATER OF (A) THE AMOUNT YOU PAID US FOR THE SERVICE IN THE TWELVE MONTHS BEFORE THE CLAIM (CURRENTLY $0 FOR THE FREE SERVICE) OR (B) TEN U.S. DOLLARS (US $10).

These limits are a fundamental part of the bargain that allows us to offer GridSpy free of charge.

You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless GridSpy and its operators from claims, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of your misuse of the Service, your violation of these Terms, or your violation of any law or third-party right, to the extent permitted by law.

We may update these Terms by posting a revised version on this page and updating the “Last updated” date. If you continue using the Service after changes take effect, you accept the revised Terms, except where applicable law requires a different process.

These Terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operators of GridSpy principally maintain the Service, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where mandatory consumer protections in your country of residence apply and cannot be waived. Courts in that jurisdiction will have exclusive jurisdiction over disputes, subject to those mandatory protections.

If a court finds any part of these Terms unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
